The Jack Rose cocktail was very popular during the 1920’s and 30’s. As applejack, the drinks main ingredient, fell out of favor, the drink receded into the corners of cocktail history. The good news is that applejack is making something of a comeback and as gourmands rediscover the delicious and complex flavor of applejack, the drink is having something of a resurgence.
The Jack Rose cocktail
- 2 oz Applejack
- 1 oz Fresh Squeezed Lemon Juice
- 1/2 – 3/4 0z Grenadine
- 1-2 dashes Peychauds Bitters (the bitters are optional, but add a terrific balance to the drink)
- Strip of lemon peel or lemon wheel for garnish.
Add all ingredients into a cocktail shaker, fill with ice, shake until well chilled, and strain into a chilled martini glass. Add a lemon twist and serve.
