I’m not so naive as to believe that politicians don’t lie, however, I am always surprised when politicians tell obvious lies – big whoppers like the deportation lie.

A couple of the GOP presidential candidates have been regularly telling the deportation lie. These candidates are seeking to exploit the country’s frustration with illegal immigration by promising, if elected, to deport all 12 – 15 million illegal immigrants and their families. That is one big whopper of a lie

I can see it now: Greyhound buses stretched for miles, tooling down the highway, headed south towards Mexico; the airports filled to over flowing with people headed back to Africa and Asia.

I can also see the news coverage. Images of heavily armed law enforcement officers breaking down doors, chasing women and children through the streets – wrestling men to the ground and hauling them away, trussed and bound like a Christmas goose.  Not a good look, especially when it will be streamed 24/7 on every media outlet imaginable

Finally, hot air in the form of rhetorical red-meat doesn’t mean that the political winds are in one’s favor. Unless one of these candidates enters office with a landslide, they won’t have a mandate to even begin such a massive undertaking. Whatever political capital they might have would be wasted, waging war on half the voters and all of the corporate world.

Politicians are always making promises that they either know they can’t keep, or have no intention of keeping.  As both political red meat and empty political promise, assuring the masses that you will hunt down, arrest, detain, and then cart away 15 million people takes the cake.
