GUNS FOR ME BUT NONE FOR THEE

Cleveland civil rights attorney, David Malik, was arrested at the airport for carrying a concealed weapon.

David Malik was arrested about 4:15 p.m. after airport security found an unloaded .22 caliber handgun and a box of ammunition in his carry-on bag, records show.

“I participated in a target shooting class recently with a certified CCW instructor and I simply forgot to remove it from my bag,” Malik said in a statement. “I used the bag to pack for my trip. It was a stupid mistake.”

Malik is a vocal advocate for reform in the police department.  Given the seeming proliferation of questionable behavior by the police, Malik’s voice seems a necessary one.  However, it is not Malik’s work as a critic of police misconduct that is of interest.  Steven Loomis, president of the Cleveland Police Patrolmen’s Association is quoted as follows:

“What’s interesting about David is he is such an anti-gun person,” Loomis said. “He’s such an anti-violence person, and of all the things for him to get arrested for, that really surprises me.”

So, once again, an anti-gun advocate is found with a gun!  Recall that in October, following the regfusal of a grand jury to indict Officer Darren Wilson for the death of Michael Brown, state senator Jamiliah Nasheed was arrested after officers observed that she appeared intoxicated.  Following her arrest, she was found to be carrying a 9mm handgun. Her story is here.

I find it concerning that those who are so ready to deny the rest of us the right to keep and bear arms all have guns! Of course, these laws are only meant for we penny stinkers and not for the elite, who will surely rule our lives with an iron fist, if given the chance.
