I believe it is crucial to point out idiocy of this sort whenever we hear it.

Can babies be racists?  According to Indiana state representative Vanessa Summers, the answer is: “Yes!  Most definitely.”

During debates about passage of Indiana’s religious freedom bill, Summers accused the 18 month old son of her Republican colleague, Judson McMillin of being frightened of her because of her dark skin.

Said Summers:

“He looked at me like I was a monster and turned around and cried,” she said. “And I told him you need to introduce your child to some people that are dark-skinned so he will not be scared.”

(Babies are incredibly insightful.  The boy may have realized he was in the presence of an idiot.)

To his credit McMillin was gracious in his response, (more gracious than I would have been) explaining that,

“I can tell you that if he reacted the same way he reacts with anybody brand new, he buries his head in his dad’s shoulder. Whoever it is, it’s what he does. He’s an 18-month-old kid; he’s in a new environment up here in the place like the Statehouse but doesn’t know anybody. I honestly don’t remember anything out of the ordinary.”

Having raised three boys and encountered hundreds of babies in my life, I can testify that many – not all- but many infants bury their heads in their parents shoulders when they are in a new environment, or if they are meeting someone new.  Most people with any life experience have witnessed similar behavior.  However, if you are a race obsessed narcissist like Summers, you take such behavior personally and blame it on the color of your skin.  You then take it upon yourself to lecture everyone within earshot, thus making yourself more of a buffoon.

Two words for Rep. Summers: SIT DOWN!  Sorry.  Two more words: SHUT UP!
