The Manhattan cocktail is called whiskey’s answer to the Martini. This cocktail is a simple combination of whiskey, sweet vermouth, and a maraschino cherries. Story has it that during prohibition, Canadian whiskey was all that was available, so now, the Manhattan is usually made with Canadian whiskey. However, any whiskey will do. The drink is stirred, rather than shaken, so as not to bruise the whiskey.
