Also known as Bermuda’s poem-in-a-glass, the Dark and Stormy is a combination of dark rum and ginger beer. Traditionally, the Dark and Stormy is made with Goslings Black seal Rum and Goslings ginger beer. There is something about the richness of Goslings’ rum and the spice of their ginger beer. However, a dark rum like Myers will suffice. I would also go for a nice spicy Jamaican ginger beer. If you feel a bit odd using Jamaican ingredients to make a Bermudan drink, just bite your tongue. If you don’t say anything, no one will know. In America, you will also find the Dark and Stormy made with lime juice. In Bermuda, the drink is not served with lime juice. Try it both ways and choose which you prefer.
- 2 oz dark rum
- 3 – 6 oz ginger beer
- lime wedge for garnish
- (optional) 1/2 oz lime juice.
Add ice to a tall glass. Pour rum over the ice and then add the ginger beer. Garnish with lime.
