MINT JULEP

The Mint Julep is associated with the Ketucky Derby, but this refreshing bourbon cocktail is good anytime of the year.

The Mint Julep is a cocktail made with a little bit of sugar, lots of crushed ice, and a good quality bourbon.

  1. 3 leaves of mint + one sprig for garnish
  2. 1 Tblsp minted simple syrup
  3. 1 ounce quality bourbon
  4. crushed ice

Traditionally, the mint julep is served in a chilled pewter or stainless steel cup.  If you don’t have a julep cup, feel free to use any cocktail glass.

In the bottom of a Julep cup or chilled cocktail glass, muddle the mint leaves and simple syrup.

Add bourbon.

Fill glass with crushed ice and stir.

Garnish with a sprig of mint and serve with cocktail straw.

MINT SIMPLE SYRUP

  • Equal parts sugar and water
  • sprigs of fresh mint

Bring sugar and water to a boil.  Lower heat and stir until sugar is completely dissolved.  Remove from heat. Add sprigs of mint and allow to cool completely.  Pour unused syrup into a jar, seal tightly and place in refrigerator and chill for 24 hours. The syrup keeps refrigerated for a week.
