FRENCH 75

Story has it that the French 75 was created by U.S. soldiers during World War 1.  Servicemen from the states stationed in France were hankering for a Tom Collins. The men had gin and lemons, but no soda. Americans are known for their ingenuity, so lacking soda, the men reached for the best thing with bubbles – Champagne!  The result was the French 75

  1. 1 oz Gin
  2. 1/2 oz Fresh lemon juice
  3. 1/2 oz Simple syrup
  4. 4 oz Chilled brut champagne
  5. Ice

In a cocktail shaker, add the gin, lemon juice, and simple syrup.  Fill with ice and shake.  Pour into a chilled champagne flute, top with champagne, and garnish with a strip of lemon peel.
