WHY PLANNED PARENTHOOD?

This week, I have asked this question over and over again: Is it possible to be for the defunding of Planned Parenthood and still be for providing health services to the poor?  And if not, why not. Supporters of Planned Parenthood answered a resounding, No!. What they have not answered, at least not so that I have understood it, is: why not?

If the issue is, as we are told, how to deliver health services (mammograms, STD screening, prenatal care) to the under-served, then it really shouldn’t matter who delivers those services. For some reason, however, there seems to be a belief (as unscientifically demonstrated by the answers to my question) that Planned Parenthood must exist in order to provide those services.  Because Planned Parenthood is essential, they are therefore untouchable. The mere thought of cutting off government funding is cruel and unforgivable proof of ones disdain for poor women…even though one is for providing those same services via other vendors.

I then asked, “Why Planned Parenthood?”  What is it about Planned Parenthood – a private corporation – that makes them untouchable and not just deserving, but OWED government funding?  The answer I am given is that Planned Parenthood provides needed health services to the poor.  (I feel like I have been here before.) “Who,” I am asked, “will provide those services if not Planned Parenthood?”  My answer of course is that other clinics will take advantage of the new funding available and fill the void any void left by Planned Parenthood. That answer is greeted with sneers – no actual rebuttal – just sneers.  I guess once you have a PAP smear from Planned Parenthood, one from another organization simply won’t do.

And of course, in spite of all the hysteria, Planned Parenthood will not cease to exist without federal funding.  Without government dollars, Planned Parenthood will have to find another source of funding and/or make up the difference out of their own pocket.  In other words, Planned Parenthood will have to behave like a real business.

But none of this answers, Why Planned Parenthood.  The answer – what no one wants to admit – is that the answer is: “Because Planned Parenthood provides abortions.”  It is that simple.  Other clinics that might offer those same basic health services will not offer abortions, least ways the defenders of Planned Parenthood can’t be certain of abortions on demand. THAT is why Planned Parenthood. Abortion on demand is part of the Left’s sacred trinity, (welfare and single payer healthcare are the other two) and any blow to one of these even a symbolic blow, must be defended even unto one’s political death. Thus, the absurd theater of supporters pretending that video of Planned Parenthood execs laughing while discussing harvesting the organs and tissue of babies is all made up.  Better to simply ignore such horror and the public response to it.  “Ignore the blood seeping from underneath the closet door, focus instead on all the great mammograms we provide.”

So, I have another question: what right does ANY private organization have to public tax dollars.  Or put another way: On what moral ground do some Americans claim the right to take from other Americans and give what they take to others, whom the takers deem deserving?

For that answer, I turn to our Friend Dr. Tom Krannawitter.
