FREE RANGE PARENTING

Who knew that you could be charged with being a neglectful parent for allowing your children to walk home from the park? This week a Maryland couple was found guilty of unsubstantiated child neglect for doing just that.

The ruling means Child Protective Services will keep a file on Danielle and Alexander Meitiv for five years. It’s not clear what will happen if their kids, 10-year-old Rafi and 6-year-old Dvora, are caught walking alone again.

The couple is planning on appealing the decision…

…An unsubstantiated finding is made when there’s some information supporting child neglect, when seemingly credible reports disagree or when there isn’t enough information for a conclusion.

Officials began investigating in December when police officers found the brother and sister walking back to their Silver Spring home without an adult. The two had been playing at a park about one-mile away, and the Meitivs — both scientists — encouraged them to walk home on their own as a teaching in self-reliance.

Outrageous!

There are some who believe that no matter one’s political affiliation, ultimately we all want the same things from life.  I disagree; we DON’T all want the same thing.  There are some of us who want to be left alone to mind our own business and then there are some who want to be in everyone else’s business.  These are the busy bodies who know better how everyone else should live. Of course, most people believe that they are capable of deciding for themselves what is best for them, which is why the busy bodies most often resort to the power of government to force people to do what they believe is best.  And if one continues to fight them, they will put you in jail…or shoot you. That’s just the way it goes.
