Blackberry Gin Fizz
Thankfully, Labor Day doesn’t mean the end of BBQ’s or warm weather cookouts. There are still a few warm weekends left. In some regions of the country, there are even more than a few warm weekends left. In addition, there is an entire season of football tail-gating parties yet to come. These Autumn celebrations demand a selection of ice-cold beer, but are also perfect events for pitchers of cocktails. And if you love gin, as I do, gin based cocktails are the best.
This blackberry gin fizz recipe serves eight and was taken from an old edition of Bonappetit.com
Blackberry gin fizz
- 1 6-oz Container of Blackberries (raspberries can also be used. Make sure whichever berry you use is fresh and juicy!)
- 1/2 Cup Sugar
- 2 Cups Gin
- 1 Cup Fresh Lime Juice
- Club Soda
- 8 Sprigs of Thai or Sweet Basil
Puree berries and sugar in a blender.
Let stand, stirring occasionally, until sugar is dissolved, about 10 minutes.
Strain puree through a fine-mesh sieve into a pitcher. (There will be about 3/4 cups): Discard seeds in sieve.
Stir gin and lime juice into pitcher.
Divide drink among ice-filled glasses.
Top with soda and garnish with basil sprig.
