If this isn’t the definition of irony, I don’t know what is.  I would like to briefly share with you an exchange I had over twitter last night.

I was admittedly in a rather crabby mood.  It was late and I couldn’t sleep, so I began sending out a number of Tweets covering current events.  I tweeted about the tragic on-air murders of a news reporter and her cameraman in Virginia as well as the on-air spanking Donald Trump delivered to the petulant Jorge Ramos.

In regards to the Ramos incident, I was (and remain) annoyed that Trump (who readers of this site know I do not support) was labeled a racist for telling Ramos to “go back to Univision!”  “How,” I asked, “Is it racist to tell a Univision reporter to go back to Univision?”

I am old enough to know that my tweet was provocative – not the most provocative tweet I have ever made, but provocative nonetheless.  This is what I found ironic: I received a reply calling me a “moron” because, as it was explained to me, “it was obvious that he was telling him to go back to Mexico.”

Well, to my ears Trump was telling Ramos that he was not going to be bullied or blind-sided by a news outlet that has a particular bias when it comes to the issue of illegal immigration.  Beyond that, it was not “obvious” to me what Trump was saying.  And here is the irony: Some on the Left have begun, (yet again) talking about “dog whistle” politics.  In other words, Trump didn’t say go back to Mexico you #@$%.  Instead, Trump said “go back to Univision” – employing the dog whistle – a dog whistle all of Trumps racist supporters would hear.  Of course, only dogs hear dog whistles, so it is puzzling to me that so many on the Left hear all of the racist, hateful stuff that is supposedly meant to be understood undercover by Conservatives. THAT is ironic!

Indeed, what is going on in the Leftist heart that they hear such hateful things, while the rest of us (supposedly hateful) folk just hear, “Stop interrupting! Go back to Univision and tell your bosses that I don’t scare!”  Okay, if I am a moron, the solution is a bit of education. However, it doesn’t alter the fact that I am NOT the one hearing the dog whistle – YOU are.  Now roll over. Speak!  good doggy!

I made this observation to the genius who responded to me on Twitter last night.  Then in a display of the ironic that would make Alanis Morissette proud, he replied, “I read your bio.  You are one of the few Black conservatives. #uncletom.”  That is correct.  He called me an uncle tom.

So, let’s recap:  This guy believes that Donald Trump is a racist because he told a rude and obnoxious Jorge Ramos, who by the way, works for Univision, to “go back to Univision.” The guy believes that Trump was engaging in dog whistle politics and my FAILURE to hear the whistle means that I am a moron. His ability to hear the whistle doesn’t make him a racist, it makes him astute, unlike anyone who might be a Republican.  A Republican hearing the same thing is a racist.  That same outraged guy then calls me an uncle tom because I am not a Liberal Black man.  Now, Isn’t that ironic?
